Outline of Annual Research Achievements

I- Data collection: The data collection was completed but we were not able to complete three of the surveys originally scheduled due to typhoons and schedule changes communicated to us by the port bureaus in Kumamoto, Nagoya and Shimizu (Shizuoka).
II-Data analysis and examination of the results
1.A brief summary of survey findings for the pretest completed in Yokohama in 2017 was shared with the Yokohama port bureau on June 25, 2018.
2.The survey data was transferred from Google Forms to Excel documents and translations were completed from Chinese or Korean to English.
3.The preliminary analysis for the surveys completed in the Okinawa prefecture were presented at a research meeting at the University of the Ryukyus, Research Institute for Islands and Sustainability (RIIS) on March 10, 2019.

2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.

Reason

We are in the process of preparing and analyzing the data gathered to test the hypotheses constructed at the outset of the project.

Strategy for Future Research Activity

I-Data analysis and examination of the results: Logistic regression models will be used to test the hypotheses 1-3 stated in the Purpose of the Research section. 2.The results will be communicated to the respective Port Bureaus.
II-A website will be designed for the project to disseminate the results.
III- 1.Abstract submission for a presentation at the annual conference of the Travel and Tourism Research Association (TTRA) 2.A manuscript will be prepared that explains the study and presents its results and conclusions.
3.Final project report submission.
Ⅳ- Dissemination of the results locally and internationally (6/20-7/20) 1.Presentation of the results at the annual conference of the TTRA. 2.The submission of the manuscript to the Journal of Travel Research

Causes of Carryover

1. The funds will be used to help with data entry, translation and website preparation.
