Outline of Final Research Achievements

Focusing on interactions between service providers and clients (or between service providers themselves) at a computer store and a guest service counter at a library, we investigated how the participants in service encounters coordinate their verbal and bodily conduct vis-a-vis one another when making a request or respond to a request and demonstrated how they resolve practical problems they face by achieving precise coordination of their behaviors when making/responding to a request.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

依頼に関するこれまでの研究は、依頼発話の形式がどのような要因で選択されるかを中心に進められてきたが、依頼の発話形式を超えて、参与者が依頼を遂行するのに用いるより広範囲の要素（身体動作、物理的環境、相互行為の連鎖文脈等）を体系的に分析した点に本研究課題の意義が見出せる。また、本研究では、刻一刻と展開する実際の相互行為での依頼場面において、参与者たちがどのような実際的課題に直面し、それを解決するためにどのように互いの振る舞いを微細に調整しつつ、その場に適切な形で依頼とその応答を産出しているのかを実証的に解明した点においても、これまでの研究とは一線を画していると言える。
