Outline of Annual Research Achievements

The plan for the first year was to collect the data for the primary study. This year the required equipment was purchased, data was collected from 6 classes focused on practicing speaking English as a second language, composed of 16 students per class. This results in data comprised of pre-treatment and post-treatment samples from 96 students, totaling approximately 12 hours of spoken language recordings. The principal investigator also attended the conference of the British Association of Applied Linguistics, and presented "The function of rhythm and interactive alignment in creating confluence in conversation".

Current Status of Research Progress
Current Status of Research Progress

2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.

Reason

The first year was dedicated to data collection, which is now complete. We are on track for spending the second year on the transcription and analysis of the data.

Strategy for Future Research Activity

As above, the second year will be spent transcribing and analyzing the data collected in the first year. This is expected to take most of the year. The third year will be spent presenting the results of the results.

Causes of Carryover

Some of the equipment to be used for data analysis was not purchased this year, and will be purchased in the second year.
