Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
As planned last year, I have worked on the research project in three parts: 1) cleaned up data and information collected from last year's field investigations in China. Based on these materials, I have drafted the background and some of the literature review. Given limited data collected from the field, unfortunately it is hard to build up a sound cross-sectional data set or panel data sets for econometric analysis for now. 2) revised and modified interview questions and data collecting methods to further the field investigation in China. Due to the strengthening up of research policy in China, the field investigation was not fruitful. 3) studied and investigated the situation of importing markets (developed countries in Europe)for organic agricultural products.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
4: Progress in research has been delayed.
Reason
Two reasons for the delay: 1) China has strengthened up its policy about field investigation and data collection. I have visited Shanxi province, Beijing, Nanjing, Shanghai and Yunnan province last year for field investigation but failed. Now unless there is an official letter from a Chinese university, local government or central government, there is no way to do field investigation anywhere. To obtain such an official letter, my research project has to be a collaborative one with a Chinese institute. Hence last year, I was only able to do few interviews using personal connections accompanied by Chinese collaborators of other research 2) The outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic has forced me to cancel several field investigations in European markets.

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
Given it is difficult to collect more data within project timeline in China from the field, I will have to alter the research method and adjust the direction a little bit in order to achieve the research target. Specifically, 1) conduct literature review on method; 2) based on the first-hand information obtained, extract new hypothesis to identify the determinants from new prospective;3) take advantage of the oversea visiting in Europe to further study the importing markets and to identify the determinants of China's organic exports from a new angle.
|
Causes of Carryover |
Original budget has not been used up is due to 1) failure to implement field investigation or conduct survey in China; 2) cancellation of research trip in Europe.
Money will be spent on exploring new research methods by conducting literature review (purchasing relevant materials may be needed), attending workshop and seminar, investigation in Europe and so on.
