Research Abstract |
In the course of this investigation, we were able to confirm that the multilingual and multiracial situation in Prague and Dublin, two minor cities in Europe, gave rise to an epoch of the great writers such as Rilke, Kafka, Yeats and Joyce. It was also concluded that the instability of their own mother tongues and the vague senses of belonging to their nations, races and religions, drove them to create their original styles and expressions, and to search for new identities as Pan-European artists. In the process of this study, we, Germanists and Anglicists, organized a symposium on those writers and their characteristics, especially on the symbolism of the rose in the works of Rilke and Yeats and Judaism in the works of Kafka and Joyce, and succeeded in bringing a new light upon the European literary study.
