Outline of Final Research Achievements

This study highlights how primordial landscape, emotions of the people at the tsunami hit area should be fairly included in the development process of “reconstruction” which tend to carry weight visible and quantitative aspects, for the sake of humanistic reconstruction of place and fudo (milieu). Newly constructed urban areas by heightening after the tsunami disaster gave “the second lost” for the people who lost familiar landscapes together with the living memory. These newly built townships and places, however, are also imaginatively constructing succeeding memories of places of pre-disaster area.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

本研究が明らかにしたのは、以下の点である。1）津波被災地陸前高田の人々が、元の街が失われ、嵩上げして作られた新たな市街地に「場所喪失」の不安定感を抱いている；2）ハード偏重の国や市による「大文字の復興」の一方で、住民やコミュニティによる多様な「小文字の復興」が接合されている；3）住民の場所の経験は多様であり、官主導の伝承施設や震災遺構に収束されない記憶をどのように表象し伝承していくかが課題である。
