Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本研究では2つの非対称光リング共振器を用いて、回転させながらその共振周波数差を測定することで、世界最高精度での光速の異方性探査を行う。光速の異方性探査は、光子のローレンツ不変性の破れ探査に相当する。ローレンツ不変性は全ての物理学の基礎となっているが、統一理論に向けた理論的研究や宇宙観測から破れの可能性が示唆されている。
我々はこれまで、試作機を用いて光速の行き帰りの差に対して、世界最高精度となる6×10^{-15}の上限値を得ている。現在の精度は装置の回転に伴う雑音に制限されており、精度向上のためには振動感度が低い光学系の開発と振動の少ない回転台の開発が必要である。
2019年度は、これまで開発してきた、振動感度の低いモノリシック光学系を大型化した回転台の上に載せ、初の統合試験を行った。回転台の静止時と回転時の雑音レベルを比較したところ、ほぼ変わらない感度を得ることに成功した。フロアレベルとしては、回転周波数である0.1 Hzで4e-13 /rtHz程度の相対周波数感度を得た。これはこれまでの回転時の雑音レベルと比べ、2桁近く小さい。一方で、回転に同期した雑音が確認され、0.1 Hzで5e-12 /rtHz程度の高さを持つ雑音ピークがあった。
そこで2020年度は、この雑音ピークの原因の特定に向け、ファイバ光学系の改良や散乱光対策を進めた。また、温湿度計などの環境センサの導入を行った。さらに、制御の安定性向上のために、実験室空調の見直しや、光共振器の自動ロックシステムの開発、遮光シールドの導入などを進めた。

Reason

回転に同期する雑音源の特定には至っていないものの、フロアレベルではすでに先行研究を上回る性能を達成することができており、装置も完成しているため、順調に進展していると言える。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

引き続き、雑音の低減を行っていく。回転に同期する雑音が十分小さくなり次第、観測運転を開始する。
