Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本研究では非対称光リング共振器を用いて、右回りと右回りの共振周波数の差を測定することで世界最高精度での光速の異方性探査を行う。光速の異方性探査は、光子のローレンツ不変性の破れ探査に相当する。ローレンツ不変性は全ての物理学の基礎となっているが、統一理論に向けた理論的研究や宇宙観測から破れの可能性が示唆されている。
我々はこれまで、試作機を用いて光速の行き帰りの差に対して、世界最高精度となる6×10^{-15}の上限値を得ている。測定には装置を回転させる必要があるが、これまでの精度は装置の回転に伴う雑音に制限されており、精度向上のためには振動感度が低い光学系の開発と振動の少ない回転台の開発が必要である。
本研究ではこれまでに装置の改良を重ね、試作機に比べて2桁近い雑音低減に成功した。一方で、回転に同期した雑音が確認されたため、その雑音ピークの低減を進めてきた。2021年度はこうした雑音ピークの低減のためのモノリシック光学系の開発を進めた。また、真空槽の開発、特に真空フィードスルーの改良を進めた。これは光ファイバによるレーザー光の導入に用いている真空フィードスルーにおいて、回転台の傾き等に起因する偏光回転による雑音混入が疑われたためである。また、信号線のための真空フィードスルーもより強固なものに交換し、回転に伴う雑音が混入低減を図った。
