| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The purpose of this research is to elucidate which period of Japan the term ‘post-war’ refers to, and how the changes in that period brought about the present-day identity of Japan as a country. The ‘post-war’ concept is re-examined based on post-war Japan’s achievements in each field, and an attempt was made to present a new ‘post-war’ image of Japan. The results of this joint research are scheduled to be published as What was ‘Post-War Japan’? Time Periods, Boundaries, and Narratives (Minerva Publishing) by Masataka Matsuura.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
本研究は、国内外の学界に「戦後日本」についての問題を提起し、新たな仮説、データを提供することで大きな影響を与える。「吉田ドクトリン論」批判などすでに海外誌に掲載され反響を呼んだものもある。各分野を横断した新たな複合的・多面的な視座や手法により、これまで見落とされてきた多くの重要論点を発見し解明した。
また本研究は、現在の日本が抱える問題の前提、制約となっている「戦後日本」像を解明することで、従来の通説や俗説、あるいは政治家やメディアによる政治の「物語」を可視化し、実像を明らかにした。その結果は、政界、経済界、ジャーナリズムなどに現代日本の変革を議論する際の多くの有益な材料を提供するであろう。
