| Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
本研究計画の主要部である太平洋最古の海底を含む海域における海底観測は、韓国の研究船を利用した日韓連携により、ほぼ計画通りに設置及び回収を行うことができた（令和元年度完了）。本年度は引き続きこの観測で得られたデータを解析した。本研究は、当初計画では前年度に終了する予定であったが、新型コロナウイルス感染症拡大の影響で韓国の研究所にある海底地形データの収集及び編集作業ができなかったため、終了することができなかった。本年度においても新型コロナウイルスの状況は好転しなかったが、韓国側研究協力者の協力により、懸案のデータ収集及び編集の作業を工夫することによってこれにより、リモートで行い、必要なデータを揃えることができた。地震観測データと電磁気観測データについて、それぞれ担当者が分担して解析を進め、適宜解析グループ内のミーティングを実施してグループ間の連携を図りつつ、中間解析結果を検討しながら研究を進めることができた。またこの間、日韓共同によるオンラインミーティングを合計４回実施して日韓連携にも配慮した。最終的に本研究の目的である「太平洋最古のマントル」の地震波速度及び電気伝導度構造に関する解析結果を得て、内外の学会で発表するとともに、論文を国際誌に公表した。また、令和3年5月27日と28日にオンラインの国際研究集会「Pacific Array Workshop 2021」を主催して、本研究で得られた主要な成果を発表して国内及び米国・ヨーロッパ・アジアの関連分野の研究者らと集中した議論をおこなった。
