Outline of Final Research Achievements

ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder), ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder), and SLD (Localized Learning Disorder) are often comorbid with coordination difficulties (extreme clumsiness).Therefore, we worked on the following research. (1) Systematic review of children with difficulty in coordinated movement, including writing, (2) Fact-finding survey of children with difficulty in coordinated movement in special-needs classes and classrooms, (3) Effects of exercise guidance for children enrolled in special-needs classes, (4) ASD Research on children's coordinated movements, (5) Investigation on developmental items related to coordinated movements from infancy to school age.
As a result, it was suggested that difficulties in coordinated movement are related to emotional/behavioral aspects, reading and writing, etc., and may be improved by exercise guidance.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

今回の研究では、協調運動の困難(極端な不器用さ)がASDや多動性・衝動性、文字の読み書きなどだけでなく、情緒面(不安、うつ、自尊心の低さ)、行動面(多動・衝動性、身体活動や社会活動への参加の低さ)、学習面(幼児期の協調運動と就学後の書字の関係)を示すことができた。このことにより協調運動の困難は、単に身体運動の問題にとどまらず、適切な支援を必要とする対象であることが明らかとなった。
また児童期のそうした協調運動の困難に対しては、協調運動能力の向上を図る運動指導を行うことで、協調運動能力の向上のみならず、行動面(多動・衝動性の軽減、など)や学習面(書字・描画の精緻化、など)への効果が示唆された。
