Outline of Final Research Achievements

We analyzed endogenous RNAs that have activating effects on immune responses,and obtained many findings on the release of endogenous nucleic acids, responses to released nucleic acids, and substances that cause these responses, as well as findings suggesting their importance in disease model mice and human samples.
Through a series of studies, the construction of an analytical system to analyze extracellularly released nucleic acids was promoted.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

炎症・免疫応答を活性化する内在性RNAは、今までに多様な疾患との関わりが示唆されており(SLE、 RA、 強皮症、乾癬、すい臓がん、糖尿病など)、疾患の増悪・発症の原因になり得る重要な因子だと考えられるが、その実態には不明な点が多く残されている。本研究によって内在性核酸の放出、核酸への応答、それらを引き起こす物質について得られた多くの知見やそれらの解析系は、関連する様々な疾患の病態解明や創薬に寄与するものである。
