Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The purpose of this research project was to understand the relationship between the structure of natural environments in an urban region and nature experiences by urban residents through the comparative survey of urban regions. Research methods included satellite image analysis, questionnaire surveys, and ecological surveys. The study particularly brought following findings: Population density and the size of the urban area are related to the structure of natural environment in urban areas. Residents of smaller urban areas do not necessarily experience nature more frequently than residents of mega-cities. Urban residents' perceptions of species living in their neighborhoods do not always correspond to the species’ presence.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
