Outline of Final Research Achievements

We organized a Japanese multicenter study (University of Toyama, Toho University, Tohoku University, and University of Tokyo) and collected magnetic resonance imaging data from 107 individuals with at-risk mental state (ARMS) group and 104 healthy controls. Compared with the controls, ARMS group as a whole exhibited increased volume of the left lateral ventricle, left caudate nucleus, and left globus pallidus, and decresed volume in the right accumbens, possibly reflecting a general vulnerability to mental illness. These major findings were summarized and published as an original article in Schizophrenia Bulletin.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements
