Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本研究は、地球規模でみても環境汚染のブラックボックス地域となっているアフリカにおいて、環境汚染データを新規に得られるだけではなく 、国内にはない化学物質の高濃度汚染の環境下で生活/棲息しているヒトや動物に関しての研究を初めて実施し、現地研究者とともに、新たな 手法を開拓しながら化学物質の毒性の機序や汚染への適応能を明らかにすることを目的とした。本研究では重金属と農薬について主たる研究課題とし、重金属に 関してはザンビアでは鉛およびカドミウム汚染の顕著なカブウェ地域、農薬については、再興農薬と新興農薬の重度汚染地域として、南アフリカ、およびガーナを選択した。汚染の程度の低い地域及び重度汚染地域など、汚染度が異なる地域より試料を採集し、毒性学的解析を実施し、汚染域で起こっている現象をヒトもしくは近接して棲息するシナントロープ動物において個体群の集団としてとらえ、そのメカニズムについて データ統合解析により推測することを目標とした。Covid19の影響を受け、現地への渡航に制限があったが、ザンビアではヒトの血液尿試料およびラット、ガーナではヒトの尿試料、南アフリカではラットおよび水生を中心とした野生動物を採集した。ネオニコチノイドやDDTなどの農薬、鉛などの重金属の分析とその毒性学的影響について解析を行った。特にDDTおよび鉛に関しては重度汚染地域に生息するラットや地域住民のゲノムにエピジェネティックな変化をもたらしていることも明らかとなった。
