Research Abstract

2008年度は、脳動脈瘤の発生、成長に係る流体力学的因子の検討を行い、その局在化を説明することができる新しい血行力学因子GONを発見した。このGON因子は血管壁近傍における壁面せん断応力の勾配の時間変動を示すパラメタで、その後、外国の有力グループが追試をして、有効性が確認されている。また、各種分子および血小板の力学的な相互作用から血栓形成に至るプロセスを新たに開発した粒子法を用いて解析し、一次血栓の形成と崩壊に関するシミュレーションの精度を向上させることができた。マラリア感染赤血球のモデルについては、赤血球および内部の病原体(マラリア原虫)の発達段階に応じたレオロジー特性を再現できるモデルを開発し、これを用いて微小循環内の感染赤血球の挙動について検討することができるようになった。とくに、マラリア原虫の発育に応じて、物理的に感染赤血球が硬化する機構と、原虫がもたらす赤血球膜の生物学的な反応の相乗作用をモデル化できるようになったことは、世界的に見て我々のみがなし得る研究である。これらの理論的および数値的な研究を裏付ける骨的で実際の赤血球などを使った確証実験も実施している。このため数値シミュレーションによる流れ中の赤血球挙動の解析結果の妥当性を検証する共焦点micro-PIV計測を行った。この他、微生物や腸内細菌の集団遊泳の大規模数値シミュレーションなど、各課題について広範な研究を実施し、これにより、脳動脈瘤の発生、成長には壁面せん断応力勾配の時間変化が重要な役割を果たしていること等が発見された。これらの研究成果は、英文雑誌論文や国際会議論文、国内学会論文として数多く発表されている。また、国際会議での基調講演、招待講演などを多数行い、研究成果を世界に発信した。
