| Research Abstract |
宇宙の基本的構成要素である星は、低温で高密度な星間物質である分子雲で誕生することが分かってきたが、なぜ銀河系に分子雲が存在するのかという基本的な問いに対しては未だに答が得られていない。そこで本研究では、「あかり」による遠赤外線(65,90,140,160micron)広域マップを作成し、それに基づき星間ダストの広域分布を導出し原子雲と分子雲の物理的関係を探ることによって、分子雲形成を担っている物理過程に迫ることを目的とする。「あかり」マップの作成は4年間にわたり行い、ユニークな天文学データを提供しつつ、後半2年間で主に南天カメレオン座分子雲のマップを集中的に解析し、分子雲形成過程の理解を深める。
