Research Abstract |
Contrary to the conventional understanding, which assumes that religion was on the decline in the wake of secularization in the modern times, this research project made clear : 1. that religion continued to prevail by adopting to the changing social circumstances of the modernization and 2. that the profile of the religious revitalization depended on factors like a) the given religious situation in the society in question (e.g. the character of the mainstream religion) and b) the target social groups (e.g. elite, peasantry, migrants etc.).
