Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本研究課題では海洋域マントル捕獲岩に認められる岩石学的/地球化学的バリエーションを網羅的に理解し、通常の海洋リソスフェアとマントルプルームに由来するマントルかんらん岩の判別指標を提示することを目的としている。昨年度までの研究により重点的にデータを取得してきたハワイ諸島、オアフ島ソルトレーククレーター産かんらん岩捕獲岩とカウラ島産かんらん岩捕獲岩はともにリソスフェア深部相当の高温条件を記録しているにもかかわらず、メルト成分に著しく枯渇した化学組成を有する点で類似した特徴を示すことが判明している。そこで当該年度は、上記特徴が通常の海洋リソスフェアとして異質であることを改めて検証するべく、(1)ざくろ石の仮像が発見されたクック諸島産かんらん岩、(2)プルーム火山に由来しない東北沖プチスポット産かんらん岩、(3)低温かんらん岩が多産するハワイ諸島カウアイ島産かんらん岩、の3地域に焦点を当てて太平洋域リソスフェアのデータ拡充を進めた。かんらん岩の構成鉱物が記録する平衡温度圧力条件を詳細に解析した結果、上記3地域いずれも過去のプルーム活動によりプレートが厚くなったオントンジャワ海台直下リソスフェアに比べて高い地温勾配が記録されていることが判明した。とりわけハワイ諸島の捕獲岩はおよそ90Maの比較的古い海洋に産しているにもかかわず、他地域よりも高い地温勾配で特徴づけられることから、プルーム活動により著しくリソスフェアが薄化している可能性が示された。このことは、ハワイ諸島カウアイ島とカウラ島のかんらん岩に認められる平衡温度の差が、局所的な温度構造ではなく由来深度の違いを反映しており、浅部リソスフェアと深部プルーム物質の地球化学的判別を試みる上で有用な試料であることを示している。
