Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本研究では続成作用が堆積物中の重元素安定同位体比に与える影響について熱水反応実験と堆積物コア試料の分析を組み合わせて解明することを目的とし、①安定同位体比分離法および分析条件の確立、②天然試料採取と同一層準決定、③熱水反応実験、④天然試料および実験試料の安定同位体比および配位環境分析という4つの研究ステップを4年間で行う計画をしている。
2019年度は①の実施に加えて、年度後半には②および③の実験開始を予定していたが、2019年10月、元素分離法を開発する過程で、当初の想定より簡潔な手順により、元素分離が行える可能性が判明した。より簡潔な手順で元素分離が可能となれば、分離過程におけるコンタミ量の減少に繋がる。研究遂行上、コンタミを最小限に抑えることが不可欠なため、元素分離法の開発を6ヶ月延長して実施する必要が生じた。そこで、繰越を行い、当初の想定よりも良い手順で元素分離を行う手法を確立した。また、①については、同位体測定条件の確立も達成している。②では国際深海科学掘削計画(IODP)第346航海で採取された新第三紀の日本海堆積物コアのサンプルリクエストを提出して、予定通り入手している。③についてもまずはブランク実験を行うなど、順調に研究が進展している。
