Outline of Final Research Achievements

How do athletes achieve superior motor control in less than a second? Presentstudy focused on anticipation ability and aimed to clarify its mechanism. The main findings were that skilled athletes were able to accurately predict future outcomes from the movement of their actor (i.e., predicting the trajectory of the ball from the throwing movement), and that they experienced the observed actions as if they had performed them themselves. In addition, it was shown that the athletes did not only rely on the movement information of actors as a cue for anticipation, but also integrated other information to make anticipation.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements
