Outline of Annual Research Achievements

主語(S)が目的語(O)に先行するSO語順が、その逆のOS語順に比べて処理負荷が低く、母語話者に好まれる傾向があること（SO語順選好）が多くの研究で報告されている。しかし、従来の文処理研究は日本語や英語のようにSO語順を基本語順にもつSO言語を対象にしているため、SO語順選好が個別言語の基本語順を反映したものなのか、あるいは人間のより普遍的な認知特性を反映したものなのかが分からない。この2種類の要因の影響を峻別するためには、OS語順を基本語順に持つOS言語で検証を行う必要がある。そこで、本研究では、SO言語（日本語、トンガ語など）と消滅が危惧されるOS言語（タロコ語、カクチケル語など）を比較対照することによって、人間言語における語順選好を決定する要因ならびに、「言語の語順」と「思考の順序」との関係を明らかにする。聞き取り調査やコーパス調査、行動実験、視線計測、脳機能計測など多様な研究手法を駆使して、SO言語だけでなくOS言語にも当てはまる、脳内言語処理メカニズムに関するより一般性の高いモデルを構築し、言語と文化の垣根を超えて互いに分かり合える、より暮らしやすい共生社会の実現に向けて貢献する。
今年度は現地受け入れ研究者側の都合で台湾遠征ができなかったため、以下の研究を行った。
（１）タロコ語の対話コーパスにかかる動画の撮影と書き起こし、並びに係受け情報の付与を実施した。
（２）ウェブ上で検索可能なトンガ語の語彙情報のデータベースを作成した。

Reason

本研究は、少数民族言語の話者の居住地に赴き、現地で調査・実験を行い、その結果を対応する日
本語の研究の結果と比較対照しようとするもので、海外遠征が必要不可欠である。しかし、新型コロ
ナウイルス感染症の世界的な蔓延のため、4年間にわたって海外への渡航ができなかった。そのため、カクチケル語、タロコ語、ならびにトンガ語に関する研究は、当初の予定よりも遅れているといわざるを得ない。
しかし、その代わりに、研究計画を組み替えて、日本でできる研究（日本語の文・談話処理に関する脳波実験、MRI 実験、MEG実験、語彙特性の研究、音韻の研究など）を当初の予定よりも早いペースで進めている。また、海外協力機関の研究者の協力を得て、一部にリモート調査・実験も取り入れて、カクチケル語とタロコ語のコーパス作成とトンガ語の語彙特性の研究も当初の予定を上回るペースで進行している。以上のように、カクチケル語、タロコ語、ならびにトンガ語の研究に関しては一部に遅れが見られるものの、予定よりも早く研究が進み予想を超える成果が出始めている側面もある。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

感染状況が落ち着き、各国への渡航が可能になってきているので、来年度は現地受け入れ研究者の都合に配慮しつつ台湾遠征を実施し、とタロコ語の文理解・文産出に関する調査・実験を実施するとともに、タロコ語のコーパスを完成させる予定である。
