Outline of Annual Research Achievements

アメリカ・ブルックヘブン国立研究所の相対論的重イオン加速器(RHIC)を用いたSTAR国際共同実験グループにおいて、衝突ビームエネルギー走査(BES)実験プログラムを遂行した。重心系衝突エネルギーで3~7GeV領域は固定標的型実験モードにより、また7~30GeV領域は衝突型実験モードにより、金原子核同士の衝突実験を広いエネルギー領域において実施し、衝突実験データを収集した。これは、第1期BES実験プログラムにおいて、特に高いバリオン密度における様々な観測量において非単調な変化の兆候が見られたエネルギー領域を、再度高統計で測定する第2期BES実験プログラムである。クォーク・ハドロン相転移を表すQCD相図上の高密度領域に予測される1次相転移と臨界点の探索を高統計で行うものである。この第2期BES実験により収集した固定標的型モードによる3GeV領域と、衝突型モードによる20~30GeV領域の実験データの補正・較正などの解析準備が完了し、粒子相関による方位角異方的な集団運動膨張の解析と、保存量分布の高次ゆらぎの測定を行った。特に、低いエネルギー領域ではハドロン相における物理が支配的である事を確認し、高いエネルギーでこれまでも見えていたクォーク相の存在を示す実験結果と対比する事により、今後の解析によって、これら観測量の衝突ビームエネルギー依存性に関して非単調な変化が確立できるかどうかを検証するための準備が整った。固定標的型モード実験によるデータ解析における異なる衝突事象が重なるパイルアップ等の様々な問題を補正・解決し、正味陽子数分布の高次ゆらぎを測定し、高温領域から高密度領域へ向かう道筋や、臨界点の向こう側を調べることが出来つつあると考えられる。

2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.

Reason

RHIC加速器と用いて、3年間にわたって行った衝突ビームエネルギー走査による衝突実験を遂行し、予定していた数GeVから数十GeVのビームエネルギー領域における金原子核同士の衝突実験データ収集を行うことができた。収集した実験データの較正や様々な補正を行い、固定標的型モード、及び衝突型モードの実験データ解析を進める事により、第2期ビームエネルギー走査実験の3GeV付近の低いエネルギー領域と、20-30GeV程度の高いエネルギー領域で、それぞれ高次ゆらぎと粒子相関による物理解析を進めることができた。コロナの影響は限定的で、現地で加速器や検出器を制御する研究者と協力し、現地に行かないメンバーは収集された実験データのクォリティーチェックなどをオンラインにより行う実験シフトを行い、BNL研究所のSTAR実験グループにおいて、国際協力による衝突実験をさらに継続・遂行している。衝突ビームエネルギー走査を行なった全エネルギー領域にわたる物理データ解析を、今後進める事により、観測量のエネルギー依存性の非単調性を検証し、1次相転移や臨界点を探索する研究を進める準備ができつつある。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

第2期の衝突ビームエネルギー走査実験において収集した実験データを解析し、特に、ゆらぎと粒子相関に関する物理解析を行い、そのエネルギー依存性を検証する。固定標的型モード、及び衝突型モードの実験データの両方を用いて、2つのモードが重なるエネルギー領域で実験結果の整合性を検証しつつ、全体のエネルギー走査領域にわたる依存性を測定し、QCD相図の高密度領域に予想される1次相転移や臨界点による特徴的で非単調な変化を探索する。今後の固定標的実験を主とする将来実験計画として、FAIR加速器を用いたCBM実験やJ-PARC加速器を用いた重イオン実験のための準備・計画を推進する。これまでの衝突ビームエネルギー走査実験および1次相転移や臨界点の探索研究に関する実験的・理論的な研究成果の報告・発表や、今後の研究の方針・展開を議論するために、国際共同実験グループの共同研究者会議や、国際研究会議を企画・主催する。
