Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This study attempts to clarify the role played by social education in the formation of community of the new middle class, using residents of apartment complexes during the high-growth period as a case study. As a result of the study, the following points were clarified. First, the residents of the housing complexes at that time were the target of attention and encouragement by the social education administration, as they had the potential to create a new community. Second, the social education administration's efforts to reach out to the residents of the housing complexes had an impact on the formation of community through the deepening of learning activities on public themes and the creation of new learning activities, but it also had multilayered consequences, such as stimulating learning interests in private themes and creating situations where social education staff could not fully respond to the learning needs of the residents.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
本研究で得られた成果は、学習活動の支援による新しい地域社会の形成をめざした高度経済成長期の社会教育行政について、その歴史的帰結(地域社会にもたらした影響)が十分に研究の対象とされてこなかったことに鑑み、事例研究をベースにしてその歴史的帰結を明らかにしたという点で、学術的意義を持つといえる。また、本研究はこの歴史的考察を通じて、社会教育行政に対する評価が客観的資料と多面的視点、そして長期的スパンを対象として総合的になされるべきであるという方法論的視座を示したという点で、今日的意義をも持つものといえる。
