Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
Due to the global Covid19 pandemic the prospect of obtaining empirical results from research on international faculty mobility became problematic. I had little choice but to begin research in another area of interest in my overseas location--the positionality of the Catalan language within the society of Catalonia and view of recent immigrants regarding the importance of learning and using Catalan in their daily lives. I spent the summer of 2020 doing an extensive literature review, and began a survey of foreign residents in Catalonia in September, 2020. Results were obtained by October and a research report was written and submitted to a number of academic journals, however nothing has been published as of yet.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
4: Progress in research has been delayed.
Reason
The global Covid19 pandemic not only made it extremely difficult to research this topic and attend conferences, it also drastically changed the potential results from research on international faculty mobility.
|
Strategy for Future Research Activity |
This academic year I intend to finally do interviews with foreign faculty in Japan, which was made easier not that I (principle investigator) have moved back to Japan. Interviews will be conducted from May, 2020 to September. Analysis of interview transcripts will be done in October to November of 2021 and reports on the result will be written and hopefully published in January and February. Results will also be presented at an international or domestic conference during winter or early spring 2021.
|
Causes of Carryover |
As I was unable to conduct much research last year due to the global COVID19 pandemic. I will need much more funding for this year in order to make more progress with this research and attend conferences, which I could not do the previous year.
