Outline of Final Research Achievements

The main purpose of this study was to compare the effectiveness of anxiety control coping and acceptance coping in healthy individuals with obsessive-compulsive tendencies as an analog study. Through research, it has been suggested that anxiety control coping has the effect of increasing rather than reducing obsessive-compulsive tendencies. This suggests that the coping mechanism of trying to calm oneself has the function of postponing anxiety and may have a negative effect. On the other hand, in terms of acceptance coping, immersion in valued activities and attitudes related to mindfulness were seen to be effective in reducing compulsive tendencies. Based on the results of this study, it seems possible to propose that acceptance coping is effective in dealing with obsessive-compulsive disorder.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements
