Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
As I have now left Japan I have suspended the grant. However, prior to this suspension several pieces of work have been completed. This year saw the publication of an mSystems paper exploring yeast symbiosis. Moreover, additional pieces of work are currently in submission with the hope of submitting the final pieces in quarter 2 of 2021. More specifically, work detailing Drosophila gene regulation is current under review and a paper detailing high school student outreach is also under review. Currently there are 4 additional manuscripts relating to this grant that will be submitted as soon as possible. One will detail 4-strain yeast system and the associated modelling. Unfortunately the publication of the work sooner was complicated by COVID-mediated difficulties in collaboration but it is now on track again. There is also two gene regulation papers and a policy paper that was supported by this grant. I feel that all research needs to have wide public impact. In addition to the hard laboratory-based science I am thrilled that this work has also included both outreach and policy pieces. This has facilitated the communication of our results and contributed to science discussion beyond the niche of symbiosis researchers.
