Outline of Final Research Achievements

Maternal stress including maternal malnutirition induces the effect on the regulation of gene expression in adulthood of offspring. Therefore, these stresses induces various diseases. In this research, we elucidated these maternal stress evoke adulthood salt-sensitive hypertension by epigenetic changes not only in the center of blood pressure regulation in the brain, but also in the renal tubule sodium handling transporters.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

胎児期の母体へのストレスが、成人後の高血圧発症の原因になりうることを示し、さらにその原因となりうる機序の解明につながる成果をえた。今後研究を進めることにより、現在ほとんど原因のわかっていない高血圧の発症の原因を明らかにし、新しい治療の解明に繋がると考えられる。
