Outline of Final Research Achievements

This study examined the impact of processing fluency of health information on physical activity, vaccination, and cancer screening behaviors, reviewed readability studies in vaccination and cancer screening information, and advocated the importance of assessing and improving processing fluency of health information through academic papers and media. We also developed a Japanese version of The Patient Education Materials Assessment Tool, a scale to evaluate the understandability and actionability of health information.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

健康医療情報の見やすさ、読みやすさ等の重要性は指摘されてきたものの、学術的な枠組みに基づく議論は乏しかった。本研究は心理学分野の処理流暢性に関する研究を理論的枠組みとし、健康医療情報の処理流暢性が行動変容に与える影響を検討した。また、The Patient Education Materials Assessment Tool日本版の開発は、市民・患者向け健康医療情報の理解しやすさと行動しやすさの改善に貢献をもたらし、大きな社会的意義を有する。
