新学習指導要領において高等学校で「理数探究」が新設される他、教科横断の「総合的な探究の時間」も始まっていき、ますます探究活動が重視されていく傾向にある中、これまでの科学教育の枠を超え技術・工学・数学までをも横断する、特に自由研究・探究に焦点を絞ったSTEM教材・AL型授業を開発した点に学術的意義や社会的意義がある。
