Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本研究は、ミリ波サブミリ波帯での深く広いサーベイ観測および分光観測に基づき、多量のダストに覆い隠された爆発的星形成銀河（サブミリ波銀河）が、初期宇宙にどれだけ存在し、宇宙の星形成史の中で、どのような役割を果たしているか、を明らかにすること等を目的としている。研究の最終年度となる平成24年度の主な研究実績は、以下の通りである。(1) ボロメーターカメラAzTECで発見した膨大なサブミリ波銀河のうち、特に高赤方偏移にあると考えられる銀河サンプルを構築し、うち1個をSMA干渉計で、また30個をアタカマミリ波サブミリ波アレイ（ALMA）で観測した。その結果、Hubble宇宙望遠鏡やSpitzer宇宙望遠鏡による可視光から赤外線域での画像で非常に「赤い」特徴を示すもの、すなわち、確かに初期宇宙にあると考えられる爆発的星形成銀河が多数存在することを明らかにした。(2) AzTECで発見した特異に明るい、おそらく重力レンズにより強く増光された爆発的星形成銀河のサンプルについて、ALMAやHerschel宇宙望遠鏡、ATCA干渉計を用いた追求観測を行い、重力レンズ像を得ることに成功した他、赤方偏移が2から3を越えるような初期宇宙の爆発的星形成銀河であることを明らかにした。(3) 波長1.1mm帯および870μm帯の2色同時観測を可能とする超伝導遷移端センサーを南米アタカマに設置したASTE望遠鏡に搭載し、2度にわたり試験観測を実施した。残念ながら、悪天候によりなかなか良好な条件での観測ができない期間が続いたが、いくつかの天域での観測に成功した。解析手法の検討を行いつつ、データ解析を進めている。(4) 野辺山45m鏡に搭載した超広帯域分光観測システムでの観測が進み、複数の爆発的星形成銀河でCO輝線の初検出に成功した。これらの成果から、ダストに覆い隠された爆発的星形成銀河が、従来の理論予想を越えて初期宇宙に多数存在している可能性が示唆される。
