Research Abstract

超高硬度ナノ多結晶ダイヤモンド(ヒメダイヤ)の良質化に取り組み、不純物の特定をおこなった。この結果、これが原料のグラファイトに混在していたタングステンであることが明らかになり、他の高純度グラファイトを用いることによりこの点は大きく改善された。また、既存の高圧装置で可能な大型化に取り組み、5mm程度のヒメダイヤの合成を可能にした。更に平成21年3月末に新しく導入した世界最大のマルチアンビル装置の立ち上げをおこない、ヒメダイヤの更なる大型化に向けた技術開発をおこないつつある。一方で、焼結ダイヤモンドアンビルを用いた高温高圧発生技術に基づき、パイロライト組成の50GPa程度までの圧力下での相転移実験およびFe分配実験をおこなうとともに、Fe_2O_3-Al_2O_3系の相関係に関しても実験を開始した。また6-8-2加圧方式を用いた高温高圧実験技術により100GPa、1500K程度までの実験を可能にし、下部マントル関連物質のX線その場観察をおこないつつある。更に、ヒメダイヤをDACに応用し、100GPa領域で5000K程度の高温発生に成功し、通常の単結晶に比べて加熱効率が良いという結果を得るとともに、圧力発生効率においてもヒメダイヤのほうが高いという結果も得ている。またDACを利用したFeおよびFe-S、Fe-Si系の相関係実験を開始し、同時に第一原理計算グループによる結晶構造探査プログラムの開発を進め、核領域におけるFe系物質の安定相と相関係の決定をおこないつつある。
