Research Abstract

本研究では「樹冠上フラックス(生態系全体)」「葉群」「土壌圏」の3つの領域を設定し、各物質の交換過程についてそれぞれの領域における挙動をみてきた。具体的には、熱・水・CO2・CH4・N2Oについて樹冠上フラックスを、熱・水・CO2・CH4・BVOCについて「葉群」領域での過程を、また、熱・水・CO2・CH4・N2Oについて「土壌圏」領域での過程をみてきた。これらの情報をベースとして、3つの領域それぞれにおいて複数のガス態物質の交換過程の相互連動について解析し、このことによりガス交換を支配する生物物理および生物地球化学プロセス、すなわち、ガス交換からみた東南アジア熱帯雨林生態系の在り様と機能を明らかにしてきた。
本調査地は熱帯雨林であるものの年間総降雨量は1800mm程度と少なく、年々変動が大きく熱帯乾燥林ほど強度ではないものの概ね年2回ずつの雨季と乾季が存在し、森林におけるフェノロジーやガス交換に関する様々な局面がこの雨季と乾季の影響を受けてどのように変動したか、または変動しなかったかについて、重点を置いて調べてきた。これまでの調査において、雨季、乾季、雨季から乾季への移行期、乾季から雨季への移行期、エルニーニョの年が含まれる場合には極乾年の乾季など、いくつかの重要な季節が含まれるように観測を行ってきており、最終年度である今年度は、これらの情報をもとにとりまとめを行った。その結果、広範囲の気象条件下において極めて安定的なガス交換特性を維持している熱帯雨林生態系の様々な調整機能が明らかになった。
