Outline of Annual Research Achievements

惑星周辺の宇宙空間における高エネルギー粒子の生成・消失過程と、その高エネルギー粒子が惑星大気に及ぼす影響の理解は、太陽系の複数の惑星に跨る研究課題である。本研究は地球を対象に、放射線帯電子の大気への降下を引き起こす物理過程はなにか(課題A)、放射線帯電子の降下は中層大気に如何に影響を及ぼすか(課題B)、の二つの研究課題について実証的なアプローチにより取り組んだ。
課題Aでは、放射線帯電子の大気への降下引き起こすプラズマ波動現象のうち、ホイッスラーモード波動の磁気圏での伝播モードを調査した。ホイッスラーモード波動が放射線帯の高エネルギー電子と共鳴し、その軌道を散乱するためには、波動が高緯度に伝播する必要がある。本研究ではあらせ衛星のプラズマ波動観測を用いてホイッスラーモード波動の伝播モードを調べた。まず、ホイッスラーモー波動が磁力線に沿ったプラズマ密度に沿って伝播するダクト伝播モードが存在することを突き止めた。ホイッスラーモー波動の偏波特性を詳細に調べた結果、理論的に存在が予測されていた４つの伝搬モードの存在を初めて観測により示した。また、プラズマ波動の分散関係を決定する背景のプラズマ密度データをあらせ衛星の観測データから導出し、データベース化してコミュニティーに提供した。
課題Bでは、高エネルギー電子の大気への降下により生じる中間圏のオゾン減少を、ミリ波分光観測により調査した。名古屋大学が昭和基地で実施している2022年から2023年の地上観測データを用い、オゾンの高度分布を導出するリトリーバル手法の信頼性検証を実施した。その結果、中間圏のオゾン変動を数％の精度で導出可能であることを明らかにした。また、北欧に高エネルギー電子の降り込みにより生じるオーロラを日中に観測することを可能とする近赤外オーロラ分光装置を設置し、電子の降り込み領域の可視化を可能とした。
