Outline of Final Research Achievements |
We constructed a cluster-type digital air cannon (CDA) system for use in olfactory displays, which provides localized temporal and spatial scent presentation without requiring the user to wear a device, and analyzed its behavior. In addition to realizing functions similar to those of conventional air cannons, such as stabilization of vortex ring generation and scent-adding functions, we conducted research and development on functions unique to CDAs, including vortex ring size control without mechanical drive, vortex ring acceleration by continuous firing, tubeless-type CDA, and directional control using an ejection head made of flexible material.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
空気砲により射出される渦輪を利用して香りを搬送し局所的な香り提示を行う研究は以前より行われてきたが,従来型の空気砲を使用する限り,実用的な性能を確保するにはサイズなどの点で問題があった.クラスタ型デジタル空気砲は,射出部自体は単に多数の開口を持つ板であり,産業的に成熟した空圧システムの部品で構成できるため,機器や施設・住宅設備への導入を行う際の適用範囲を拡げる可能性を有する.
