Outline of Final Research Achievements |
In this research, I studied the appropriate content and sequence when teaching the concept of energy to elementary school students. First, as a result of analyzing the textbooks of several publishers for each subject with a high usage rate in elementary school, I found that the term "energy" related to the human body and food is often used. The same tendency was observed in educational cartoons for elementary school students. Also, in British elementary school science textbooks, the introduction of the concept of energy was based on food in the third grade. This trend is similar to the results of previous studies in the United States. From the above, it is appropriate to introduce the concept of energy to elementary school science in Japan, starting from learning about food, which is a familiar part of children's daily life.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
小学校の理科では、エネルギー概念を用語“エネルギー”を用いずに周辺概念から理解させるという方策をとってきたが、それ以外の教科ではこの用語を度々用いており、ねじれの現象を明らかにした。また、発電に関する実験活動での小学生の発話を分析すると、児童はこの用語を用いないか、または、誤って使用していた。また、さらに、米国だけでなく英国の初等教育段階の理科教科書では、主に食物や人体を主とした同概念の導入を図っていた。小学生段階で正しくエネルギー概念を理解させることは重要であるので、本研究で得た知見は、今後の日本の小学校での理科教育におけるエネルギー概念の導入についての議論に対し大きく貢献するものである。
