Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本研究では、スピン3重項超伝導におけるメタ磁性転移と超伝導の関連性を明らかにすることを目標とし、パルス強磁場を用いた強磁場物性研究を展開している。特にUTe2に着目し、磁場印加方向によってメタ磁性転移近傍で消失、誘起する超伝導の起源を明らかにすることを目指している。今までに、一次のメタ磁性転移に伴い電子比熱係数が不連続に変化することを見出した。超伝導が消失する直方晶b軸方向の磁場印加ではメタ磁性転移に伴い電子比熱係数が減少すること、超伝導が誘起される[011]方向磁場では電子比熱係数が増大することを明らかにしている。
本年度の主な実績は、UTe2におけるメタ磁性転移における格子歪を明らかにし、メタ磁性転移がウランの価数変化であることを提案したことである。 b軸磁場印加による各軸方向への試料の伸び縮み、線磁歪を測定し、体積磁歪や磁化を用いた熱力学的な考察を行った。メタ磁性転移に伴い、直方晶のa, b軸は不連続に縮み、c軸は不連続に伸びることが分かった。これらの結果から、メタ磁性転移で約0.06%と比較的大きな負の体積変化が起きることを明らかにした。各軸線磁歪から線磁歪平均を引くことにより求められた異方的磁歪が、b、c軸は逆符号で同程度の大きさの変化を示すこと、つまり、メタ磁性転移に伴いbc面内で異方的な歪みが生じていることを明らかにした。さらに、ウランの5f電子の「局在・遍歴性二重性」描像に基づき、UTe2のメタ磁性転移はウランの価数変化で説明できることを提案した。この結果をまとめた論文はJournal of the Physical Society of Japan誌で発表し、編集者注目論文に選ばれ、高い評価と注目を得ている。
このように本研究を通じて、パルス強磁場実験技術も向上し、UTe2のメタ磁性転移の起源と超伝導転移への影響が明らかになりつつある。
