Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
Research regarding the education of vulnerable populations in Japan continues, with the focus shifting towards a Japanese society that is increasingly becoming more diverse (and less homogenous). More specifically, seminars conducted over the past years have seen a change of discussion to education for diverse populations.
As this project approaches the last year of implementation, I plan to focus more on examining the current trends of diversity that are occuring within Asia, with a movement of demographic populations from South and Southeast Asia into historically homogenous East Asia, and to examine the issues of inclusion in education for these changing societies.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
3: Progress in research has been slightly delayed.
Reason
Fieldwork remains significantly delayed, and the unfolding of educational changes across the world and societal changes in Japan over the pandemic leads me to evaluate my focus at this current point of human society.

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
As this project approaches the last year of implementation, major societal changes has affected the relevance and timeliness of the original targeted research subjects. In line with the post-corona society and a world that has been increasingly seeing a grassroot-led movement towards inclusion, I plan to focus more on examining the current trends of diversity that are occuring within Asia, with a movement of demographic populations from South and Southeast Asia into historically homogenous East Asia, and to examine the issues of inclusion in education for these changing societies.

Causes of Carryover |
Travel expenses skyrocketed in 2023, and the weakened yen led me to keep overseas travel trips to a minimum. I was also allocated a university programme managerial duty in 2023, which took a significant amount of time away from research. In 2024, I have been given a break from the managerial duty and wish to focus on my research pursuits during this time.
