Outline of Final Research Achievements |
Recently, it has been reported that plastic debris are widely diffused in the environment, and there is a growing need to estimate the origin of their release to the environment. Since plastics contain various additives and impurity elements, trace elemental analysis of raw materials or individual products is considered effective for estimating the origin of plastics. In this study, a rapid and sensitive in-situ analytical method using femtosecond laser ablation-inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry was developed to determine trace elemental composition. Using the developed method, we analyzed commercially available plastic materials and succeeded in detecting 57 elements out of 70 elements, 11 of which were considered to originate from additives and 46 of which were considered to be impurities.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
