Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
The project entitled “ インド地下水汚染地域における妊娠、出産および小児の発育・発達に関する研究” started from October 2020. NIRF ranked NITTE university, as Indian research partner for this project. Prof. Suchetha Kumari N. is principal investigator. Online zoom meeting was conducted to explain the project objectives and methodologies to be implemented during the period of project duration. Other members from Nitte university are Dr. Shirpa Sonkusare (pediatrics surgeon), Dr. Prashanth B Naik (OBGY surgeon), Dr Shilpa Shetty (Biologist). Study area covered Kasaragod district (red zone) of Kerala state, Mangalore (yellow zone) and Udupi district (Control zone). 25 Environmental hot spots were identified in these places where agro-plantation product, chemical and agrochemical industries are located. We have taken help of Mangalore university, geology department for the identification of hot spots. Sample’s size of 100 families were identified with diverse ethnic, economic and cultural back ground. Health cohort survey questionaries in local and English language were prepared and finalized with joint meeting with University of Miyazaki investigators. Outpatient department (OPD) visitors were monitored in the hospital record and follow up strategies were planned.

Reason
本研究課題はNITTE大学学内の臨床研究倫理審査に承認を得た。現地共同研究者はサンプリングする汚染地域の井戸の選定や関係各所との交渉を行い、随時許可を得た。現在、約30か所の井戸水からサンプリングを行った。また、妊婦検診時の問診項目・検査方法を現地の文化・風習を鑑みて日本側の医師・研究者と協議し、標準化したプロトコールを作成しているところである。

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
100 water samples from open well. Tube well will be collected and its physicochemical, heavy metal, biological, microbiological tests will be conducted at Nitte university central laboratory. Biological analysis laboratory will be established in Nitte university. One new researcher with salary will be appointed for day-to-day monitoring of the project. Regular village health camps will be conducted. Some more instruments will be purchased to do the biological analysis of the water and cord blood samples of the pregnant women. 100 pregnant women sample will be selected from environmental hot spots with equal number of control samples for regular pregnancy monitoring. These women’s will be asked to deliver child at NITTE university hospital with free charges. Cord blood will be collected. One international joint health workshop will be conducted at Nitte university in the month of December 2021.

Causes of Carryover |
新型コロナウイルス感染防止のため、インドに出向いての調査を行うことができなかった。次年度以降、インドに出向いての調査において使用予定である。
