Research Abstract

「海生真核単細胞生物は無酸素環境に適応している」ために、「無酸素海洋で海成真核単細胞生物は進化する」ことができるメカニズムを明らかにすることを目的として、貧酸素環境に生息する真核単細胞生物の適応生態を明らかにする。そのために、以下のアプローチを行った。1.現場観測:アラビア海、日本海、相模湾という溶存酸素レベルが異なる海底に於いて炭素安定同位体C-13でラベルした餌を添加した現場実験とoptode sensorを用いた現場計測を行い、炭素固定能を観測した。陸域に近く、有機物の負荷が高い相模湾底は地積物内の嫌気度が高く、そこに住む生物も有機物が多いことによる貧酸素環境に適応した種類が多く見られる。一方、同じ嫌気環境でもアラビア海は硫化水素が湧くような場ではなく、生物相も異なっている。この構成の違いが炭酸固定に影響するかを見積もっている。また、相模湾の堆積物群集を例としてLinear Inverse Model解析を試みた。生物が固定する炭素量の見積もりが鍵を握る解析方法であり、基礎データが更に必要である。2.ゲノム解析:底生生物のメタゲノム解析を試みた。3.精密飼育実験:貧酸素環境を再現できる実験系を増強し、4系列を整備した。また、顕微鏡下で貧酸素環境を再現して生物活動を観察するための装置を製作した。4.電子顕微鏡による細胞組織観察:Globobulimina affinis, Chilostomella ovoideaなど、貧酸素に適応した種類の細胞内器官の種類と分布などの特徴を継続して検討した。5.殻内有機物の同位体分析もデータを蓄積した。なお、平成23年4月にEGUにおいて、嫌気環境生態系に関するセッションを持ち、これまでのデータについて関連研究者と議論した。
