Research Abstract

「海生真核単細胞生物は無酸素環境に適応している」ために、「無酸素海洋で海成真核単細胞生物は進化する」ことができるメカニズムを明らかにすることを目的として、貧酸素環境に生息する真核単細胞生物の適応生態を明らかにする。そのために、以下のアプローチを行っている。1.現場観測:八戸沖に発達する酸素極小層を挟むトランセクトを対象として、溶存酸素レベルが異なる海底に於ける生物群の違いと底層コミュニティーの炭素固定能を見積もる現場計測を行った。それと同時に、NO2,NO3,NH4などの栄養塩、嫌気環境の指標となる希少金属元素のj濃度分布、マイクロセンサーによる酸素プロファイルを取得した。これらの環境情報を含めたメタデータと、底生有孔虫群集、有孔虫の殻に含まれるさまざまな代替指標を比較し、嫌気環境時の底層コミュニティーの行動、機能を推定する。2.ゲノム解析:昨年に引き続き底生生物のメタゲノム解析を試みた。とくに、嫌気環境でよく現れる真核生物細胞の盗葉緑体のゲノム解析を行い、どのような生物がどのような生物の葉緑体を取り入れ、どのような機能を用いようとしているのかを明らかにする。3.精密飼育実験:貧酸素環境を再現できる実験系を整備した。貧酸素下での実験を行い、酸素消費量、窒素固定などの嫌気と相関するパラメター測定を行う。4.電子顕微鏡による細胞組織観察:電子顕微鏡の更新の時期に当たり、マシンタイムが余り取れず、観察ははかどらなかった。5.殻内有機物の同位体分析は、着々とデータを蓄積した。なお、平成24年4月のEGUにおいて、嫌気環境生態系に関する講演を小栗、北里が行い、また、有孔虫の石灰化プロセスに関する発表を豊福が行うための準備を進めた。

今年度当初に計画した年次計画のうち、透過型電子顕微鏡による細胞観察が進んでいない。それを除くと、予定通り進行している。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

平成24年度は、本研究の最終年度である。国際会議で講演し、また、論文化することを目指し、研究を集約させる。
