Research Abstract |
This joint research was intended to provide a forum to compare and contrast the characteristics of and linkages between Asian empires and regional political and commercial networks in and around the East Asia maritime realm and the Indian Ocean from the 9th to the 19th centuries. Particular stress was placed upon examining the emergence and maintenance of empire-centred regional economic order, and the role of commercial and political networks in the creation and development of regional and state-level integration within empires. The interconnections among those regional economies and their impacts were also considered.
