| Research Abstract |
In an effort to establish the optimum diet for host resistance, we investigated the effect of different dietary protein levels on host resistance to pathogenic fungi. Mice refed low protein diet showed higher antifungal activity in the spleen and liver compared with mice on the normal protein diet. In contrast, mice refed high protein diet showed reduced antifungal activity in these organs. The present results imply that protein restriction without malnutrition could be beneficial to host resistance to pathogeni fungi, but high protein intake impairs host resistance.
