Research Abstract |
(1) Steady behavior of a free-molecular gas(a highly rarefied gas in which the molecular collisions can be neglected) between parallel plates with non-uniform temperature is analyzed to clarify the dependence of the flow field on the boundary condition. Moreover, a new example where no steady flow is induced is investigated. (2) The behavior of Io's atmosphere is studied via a finite-difference analysis of a model Boltzmann equation. Unsteady flows caused by condensation and sublimation of sulfur dioxide(the main component of the atmosphere) during and after eclipse are obtained.
