Outline of Annual Research Achievements

磁気圏プラズマの大勢を占める熱的プラズマは、地球内部磁気圏の電磁特性を決める重要な役割を果たすが、現在の衛星観測技術では実測困難である。本研究課題は、熱的イオンの密度・組成に依存して伝搬特性が変化するプラズマ波（EMIC波）に着目し、磁気圏内の熱的イオンの特性解明をめざしている。
初年度は、科学衛星「あらせ」による内部磁気圏内のイオンサイクロトロン（EMIC)波の空間分布や周波数特性を、あらせ衛星で観測されたEMICイベントを対象に、その統計的性質の解明を進めた。さらに、あらせ、Van Allen Probes、地上観測網の3点で同時観測されたEMIC波を詳細解析し、このEMIC波が特定の磁力性に沿った極めて狭い領域を通って地上に伝搬していることを明らかにした。
一方、科学衛星による電界強度計測は、周辺プラズマ環境によって変化するため、あらせ機上で定期的に実施している強度較正用データの解析を行うとともに、あらせ・Van Allen Probes両衛星で同時観測されたVLF帯波動について強度比較を行い較正結果の妥当性を確認した。
今後、衛星上で観測されたEMIC波の伝搬方向を解析するには、前述の精密なデータ較正に加え、観測データに混入する衛星由来の雑音を考慮した到来方向推定手法を確立する必要がある。同問題に対し、経年変化によって搭載センサ間の雑音特性にばらつきが生じた場合を想定した到来方向推定アルゴリズムを新たに考案し、その性能を疑似データを用いて検証した。

Reason

あらせ衛星で観測されたEMIC波の観測イベントを網羅的にピックアップして統計解析を進めるとともに、Van Allen Probesや地上観測網で同時観測されたEMICイベントを対象に、波動の伝搬特性を明らかにした。
加えて、周辺のプラズマ環境によって感度が変化する電界センサの較正や、センサ間の雑音特性のばらつきを考慮した波動到来方向推定法を新たに開発するなど、本研究課題で必要な一連の解析環境も整備されつつある。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

あらせ衛星をはじめ、地上観測網などで同時観測されているEMICイベントの数を増やし、内部磁気圏から地上へのEMIC波の伝搬特性を観測的に明らかにする。
一方で、EMIC波のレイトレイシングを、磁気圏内の電子密度モデルと一つであるGlobal Core Plasma Model(GCPM)をベースに行い、波動の伝搬通路を理論的に解析する。解析においては、GCPMから得られる電子密度を、衛星軌道に沿って実観測した背景電子密度で補正するとともに、高度方向に沿ったイオン組成比を様々に変化させ、観測に合致するEMIC波の伝搬通路を求める。観測とレイトレイシング結果が合致する解を導出することで、各観測イベントごとの電子およびイオンの空間プロファイルの推定につなげる。
