Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
磁気圏プラズマの大勢を占める熱的プラズマは、地球内部磁気圏の電磁特性を決める重要な役割を果たすが、現在の衛星観測技術では実測困難である。本研究課題は、電子密度やイオン組成がプラズマ波の伝搬特性に影響を与えることに着目し、波動の伝搬特性から磁気圏内のプラズマ密度や熱的イオンの組成の逆推定をめざしている。 レイトレイシング法の改良においては、従来はEMIC波の伝搬通路解析がモード別にしか行えなかった。しかし実際には、イオン組成比が極めて小さい場合や、波動の伝搬ベクトルが平行に近い条件下でクロスオーバー周波数を横切る場合は、EMIC波が隣接するイオンモードにモード変換を起こし得る。そこで、レイトレイシングコード内での分散関係求解時にこれらのモード変換の条件を取り込むことで、隣接するイオンモードをまたいで波動が伝搬する条件を考慮した伝搬通路解析手法を開発した。さらに、磁気圏内にプラズマ密度がダクト構造を構成する場合についても、レイトレイシングできるように改良を加えた。以上の条件下で、赤道域から高緯度地上へと伝搬するEMIC波の伝搬通路が存在し得ることを確認した。 一方、衛星搭載の電磁界センサのチャンネル間特性の経年劣化によるばらつきを考慮した到来方向推定法や、推定結果の信頼度を定量的に表す評価法を新たに開発した。 現在までに雷起源ホイスラやEMIC波動の数例の観測事例について、プラズマ密度分布の逆推定に成功しており、今後、より多くの観測事例に適用することで、波動の伝搬特性から熱的プラズマのグローバル分布の解明が期待できる。
