| Summary of the Research Project |
本研究は、地球の酸化史を岩石中の硫酸塩の硫黄と酸素の同位体の特定の組み合わせを定量化することによって、より具体的に解明しようとする。これらを規制する要因は岩石の風化、微生物による硫酸還元、熱水活動であり、本研究により、これら3つそれぞれの海水中の硫酸イオンへの影響が評価可能となり、結果的に地球の酸化史の解明につながる。

| Scientific Significance and Expected Research Achievements |
本研究は、応募者グループが世界で唯一可能としている硫酸の安定同位体と2重置換同位体の同時計測を通して、岩石の風化、微生物による硫酸還元、熱水活動に規制された生物地球化学的循環を多角的に評価する提案で、ユニークな手法による地球史の重要課題の解明を目指し、大きな成果が期待される。
