Outline of Annual Research Achievements

We have produced two research papers this year. One has been published in a peer-reviewed domestic journal. The other has been accepted for publication in an international peer-reviewed paper. We also have a third paper that is currently under review.

Our findings were also presented orally at an international conference at the University of Hawaii (Hilo) on March 1, 2023.

Current Status of Research Progress
Current Status of Research Progress

2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.

Reason

Our project is progressing smoothly because we have reported part of our findings in two publications with one more paper under review. We have collected most of the data we need. Many children who participated in our study have completed their third or fourth English literacy assessments. We will report our final findings in a fourth research paper.

Strategy for Future Research Activity

In FY 2023, we will assess the remaining participants who have not taken their third or fourth assessments. We will write up the results from our three-year study in an additional (fourth) paper. As an extension of our project, we also plan to assess the children's English reading. The additional assessment will provide us with a larger pool of participants to support our findings from the writing assessments.

Causes of Carryover

Funds will be mainly used for paying 1) article processing charges for our research articles, 2) travel expenses for presentations at conferences, 3) gratuity to research assistants for transcribing interview data and 4) gratuity to research participants.
