Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本研究では,地球近傍小惑星に見られる表面更新のメカニズムを解明することを目指し,小惑星表面上の周期的な温度変化(熱疲労)と急速な温度変化(熱衝撃)による岩石破壊がその主要なメカニズムになり得るかということについて調査した.

令和5年度は,主に (1) 地球近傍小惑星が過去に惑星の影を通過した頻度を軌道計算によって調べることと,(2) 惑星の影を通過する際の小惑星表面の温度変化を熱計算によって調べることに取り組んだ.軌道計算では,N体計算コードREBOUNDを用いて小惑星の軌道を過去に遡る計算を行った.地球近傍小惑星の軌道はカオス的な振る舞いをするため,各小惑星につき100個の軌道クローンを作成し,小惑星の長期的な軌道進化を統計的に評価した.その結果,潮汐力が働くような惑星近接遭遇よりも高い頻度で影通過が起こることがわかった.また,熱計算では,惑星の本影だけでなく半影の効果も考慮した熱物理モデルを構築し,様々な影通過の条件で小惑星表面の温度を計算した.惑星の影を通過すると,地球,金星,火星のいずれの場合でも,岩石の破壊臨界値を超える急速な温度変化が生じることがわかった.さらに,地球近傍小惑星が惑星の影を通過した確率とそれらの宇宙風化の度合いの間には負の相関が見られることがわかった.以上のことから,惑星の影を通過する際に生じる熱衝撃は熱疲労の引き金となる初期亀裂を生み出す可能性があり,地球近傍小惑星の表面更新に寄与していると考えられる.
